October 21 ExplorersIt is quite interesting to learn something about Australian history, especially the discovery of the south hemisphere land. 1500-Portuguese traders came from Spice Islands (Indonesia)-mapped a part of Australia. 1605-Quiros sailed from Peru, South America to look for “Terra Australia”. 1606-Luis Baez de Torres-Spanish explorer found sea passage between New Guinea and North tip of Australia. 1606-Willem Jansz landed in the Gulf of Carpentaria and he and his crew were the first-known Europeans to land on the continent of Australia. 1616-Dirk Hartog sailed from Amsterdam, discovered the west coast, known as New Holland. 1627-Peter Nuyts charted the southern coast of New Holland. 1642-Abel Tasman sighted the south coast of Tasmania. 1770-Captain James Cook charted the east coast at Botany Bay and he continued north and name the land New South Wales. .... More like a girl waiting in the boudoir to be betrothed the land was waiting for her right person at the right place on the right time.
